first_imgPrime Minister Fruendal Stuart urged Barbadians to mobilize and fully exploit their vast reserves of inner wealth as he addressed the nation on its 51 years of political independence from Great Britain on Thursday.Enviable capacity to leadStuart said although Barbados is a small country which belongs to the family of Small Island Development States. “We have never allowed our size, however, to shape our view of what it is possible  to attempt or to achieve. Therein is the secret of the impact we have been able to make on the world beyond Barbados. Whether in sport, in the arts, in literature, in entertainment, in the world of ideas, or in areas such as health, education, and the environment and whether in the region, in the hemisphere or in the world beyond, Barbados has shown always an enviable capacity to lead. That has been the story of the last fifty-one years.”Stuart also pointed to a study that was commissioned when the island celebrated its Golden Jubilee last year, stating that it revealed that Barbadians have a “deep and abiding love for their country.”Core values“It revealed despite the many changes which have taken place in the environment in which we operate, our people continue to attach great importance to those core values that made us strong throughout our history.”The Prime Minister reminded the nation that the measurement of the nation’s success has never been purely in terms of money or material gains.“Our image in the world has primarily been associated with our character.  It’s that character that sustains us as a nation, in times of plenty and times of need. So, as we work through challenges, and seek to recapture the essence of what it is to be a Barbadian, let us ensure that the strength of this nation’s true character continues to shine for all the world to see.”He said no one can deny that Barbados has done well as an independent nation.Concentrate on building future“What we have been able to achieve, represents battles fought and won. But we cannot live our lives in the past. “Life goes not backward, nor tarries with yesterday. We have now to ensure that we protect past achievements, in a spirit of thanksgiving, while we concentrate on building a sunlit future.“We can enhance our chances of creating that future if together we continue to pursue the creation of an inclusive society that is peaceful, productive and stable; if we continue to promote commitment to democratic values, so that as many people as possible can have a say in the molding of their destiny; if together we continue to preserve our belief in fundamental human rights at the core of which is respect for our many individual differences.”According to Stuart, Barbadians will continue to proudly “write our names on history’s page with expectations great, strict guardians of our heritage, firm craftsmen of our fate. Every Barbadian has an important role to play in the building of our nation.”last_img read more

first_imgNeed more space than an apartment, condo or townhouse can offer, but not ready to buy? A single-family home rental may fit the bill. But not all home rental listings are legit, so here are some tip-offs and tools to help you avoid a rental scam.According to National Rental Home Council (NRHC) members, who are owners of rental homes, scammers use a variety of tactics to get people’s money. Some hijack a real rental listing by changing the email address or other contact information and then placing the altered ad on another site. Others gain access to keys in lock boxes, make copies, and pose as legitimate rental agents. Still others may list a property that’s already leased and then try to collect application fees, security deposits, and even the first month’s rent. Here are some tips to help you avoid rental scams:Do an online search of the rental company. Enter its name plus words like “review,” “complaint” or “scam.” If you find bad reviews, you may want to look elsewhere.Got a good vibe? Rental home listings may appear in several places, including rental company websites and online listing services like like Zillow, Trulia or Craigslist. If you see a rental company’s listing on one of those online listing services, do a search of the home’s address to make sure it appears on the rental company’s website. If it doesn’t, it may be a scam.Compare prices. Is the rent a lot less than comparable rentals? That could be a red flag.Take a tour. Ask for identification. Rental agents should have photo ID badges issued by the company that owns or manages the property.Nothing sketchy yet? Apply through the rental company, licensed real estate professional or listings website. Before you sign a lease, look for signs at the rental with the name of the property owner or manager. Call that company before making a deal with anyone.Never pay with cash, wire transfers or gift cards. If anyone tells you to pay this way, it’s a sure sign of a scam. Wiring money is like sending cash — once you send it, you have no way to get it back. As for gift cards, they’re for gifts, NOT for payments. If you spot a rental scam, report it to local law enforcement and the FTC.For more tips, see Rental Listing Scams. first_img PartnerMatrix drives user engagement with two new deals August 13, 2020 Share StumbleUpon Related Articles MoneyMatrix boosts wire transfer options by integrating Klarna’s Sofort August 24, 2020 Submit BetRegal.com, a new sportsbook created to provide its customers with the “highest possible value” in prices, is on the road to Russia for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.In the first diary of this new World Cup series, Aly Lalani is talking about the importance of trade shows for a start-up company, as the industry’s annual London meetup draws closer.Whereas last year was all about ironing out integration issues with EveryMatrix and discussing design ideas with Vegas Kings, this time BetRegal will be attending ICE and the London Affiliate Conference (LAC) as a live and fully functional brand for the very first time.Given that the major BetRegal stakeholders all live in different countries with different time zones, the week is not just an important opportunity to touch base with existing clients and prospective customers, it also represents a great time for us to meet up as a team.Part of my time in the UK capital will be spent reviewing the past four or five months of operation, not necessarily at a granular numerical level, but more around some of the lessons learned we touched on in the final diary of the last series.A larger part will be focused on confirming strategic goals, agreeing on a list of priorities to help us achieve these goals, and staying off the booze at a multitude of parties (honestly).Of course, many of these strategic goals will be centred around the World Cup in Russia. This will include the implementation of a product that can help us to manage customer communication, and the segmentation of our higher value players through a VIP platform. Building on the exclusivity and aspiration of the ‘Regal’ branding to introduce ‘Royalty points’ would be a nice touch, right?Meanwhile, a specific priority of mine is to find a solution which allows us to create and automate our CRM communication based on the actions (or inactions) of a particular customer. We all know personalization is key in customer communication. Rather than build a platform internally, I’m sure we can find a product ‘off the shelf’ to bolt onto our database.I’ll admit that I’ve walked past tons of this type of company in previous visits to ICE, but this time it will be different. My plan is to go up to each and say “Hi, I’m Aly from BetRegal. We’re a new brand that has a couple of thousand players, what can you do for us?”Now, if three action-packed days at ICE isn’t enough, mustering up the energy for LAC is going to be vital for our 2018 plans. Up until now, affiliates have been the only thing we have focused on from an acquisition perspective, by leveraging the services of TAG Media. We will meet up with TAG, the driver of our affiliate program pretty much since the inception of the brand, to discuss putting meetings in place for the “general maintenance” of our existing network, and a strategy to recruit more affiliates for the brand. While the big boys may walk around the ExCeL scooping up affiliates irrespective of player profile, we have to stay focused on becoming a differential in the market.Previously, I have always had an Affiliate Manager responsible for managing my LAC presence, so I’m looking forward to getting my hands dirty this time around. However, I still plan to spend a good part of the time in quiet observation mode.My expectation is that BetRegalAffiliates.com will develop a presence at affiliate conferences in 2019, so this year I want to pay particular attention to what other brands are doing. What is working well? What is not working well? What makes a brand stand out in this cluttered community? Which brand is succeeding at driving engagement, and why? All of this research will help to define how we will present BetRegalAffiliates.com at future events. The key for both events is to maximise the opportunity presented, not to pre-plan all of my time, and walk around as a new brand with my eyes wide open. See you all in London. Erik Nyman joins EveryMatrix as US lead August 6, 2020 Sharelast_img read more

first_img Kambi takes full control of LeoVegas sportsbook portfolio August 26, 2020 Kambi and DraftKings agree on final closure terms July 24, 2020 Submit Share Related Articles Kambi takes control of Churchill Downs BetAmerica sportsbook August 28, 2020 StumbleUpon Share Publishing its Q4 2018 trading statement, Stockholm-listed sports betting technology provider Kambi Group Plc has reported that 2018 was “the most successful year in its history” following the group’s expansion into further regulated markets supported with solid growth across its commercial pipeline. Kambi reported that its trading period ending in December 2018 was that of a ‘record’, with its year-on-year operator turnover growth amounting to 42 per cent. However, while the group experienced growth across its revenue channel, Kambi’s performance has declined against a tough Q4 2017 comparative period which featured an ‘exceptional margin of 26.3 per cent’, driven by favourable sporting results recorded during 2017 year-end closing. Featured against an ‘exceptional trading period’, Kambi’s EBITDA for Q4 2018 was down to €6.5m (2017: €7.2m), however its yearly figure had considerably improved, reported as €22.5m for 2018 (2017 = €16m).Kambi Chief Executive Kristian Nylén commented on the performance decline with an optimism: “Bearing in mind the comparative period in 2017 delivered Kambi’s highest ever operator trading margin, our Q4 2018 performance is particularly pleasing and highlights the positive momentum we have built within the business,” he said.In 2018, Kambi has placed particular emphasis upon growing its retail offering across the US, pursuing licences in a number of states. The group launched three on-property Sportsbook launches across two states in the latter quarter of 2018, including the the launch of the DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts Casino in New Jersey and the concurrent launch of two Sportsbooks in Pennsylvania. The group was awarded its full licence from the Mississippi Gaming Commission, in addition to a temporary permit from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. Nylén continued: “With the US market high on Kambi’s priority list, our ability to demonstrate our high-quality on-property Sportsbook and prompt time-to-market leaves us well-placed moving forward, particularly considering the emphasis US operators and state regulators place on the retail channel. “When also factoring in the early success we have had online in New Jersey, I’m not surprised Kambi is now seen as the leading multi-channel sports betting supplier in this burgeoning market.”The shift of focus towards growing its US offering, which has consequently incurred costs of licensing and marketing, has meant a considerable growth in operational expenses for the group. This comes alongside its share of the loss from operations in relation to its investment in Virtus totalling €75k at 31 December 2018, which the group believes to be in line with forecasts.“Operating expenses are a combination of activity-related costs and fixed costs; the main expenses are salaries, office costs, live information feeds, consultant costs and amortisation.“The operating expenses for the fourth quarter of 2018 were €17.5m (2017: €14m) and €63.5m (2017: €54.4m) for the year to December 2018.“Staff costs have increased from Q4 2017 due to an increase in headcount from the expansion of staff in trading and product development, allowing us to continually improve and expand our technical expertise and Sportsbook product.”In light of its increased operational costs, Kambi has managed to improve its net cash holdings to €31.1m (2017: €26.9m), which ultimately puts the group in good stead for further expansion in the coming year.Nylén concluded: “Reflecting on the year as a whole, 2018 will be remembered as one of achievement and one in which Kambi reached new heights. And although much hard work remains in front of us, the strong foundations we have put in place leave me confident Kambi can remain on this upward trajectory throughout 2019.”last_img read more

first_imgShare StumbleUpon Share Submit The Czech Republic’s finance minister Alena Schillerová has confirmed that the country will be hiking taxes on gambling operators, set to come into effect from January 2020.Announced on Twitter, Schillerová confirmed: “The government has just approved a long-awaited Tariff package for tobacco, hard alcohol, and gambling taxation by the Ministry of Health and the National Drug Coordinator. It responds to the increase in their availability as a result of rising living standards in the Czech Republic.”As it stands, gambling operators are currently taxed at 23 per cent on gross gaming revenue (GGR), with gaming machines taxed at a higher rate of 35 per cent of GGR. However, the new proposed tax structure will see taxes split into three levels, with new tax rates based upon the potential risk factor of each activity. Schillerová offered an explanation to the decision behind the restructuring of the tax system by stating: “Our country has made considerable progress in combating addiction in recent years. We all remember the weed-filled housing estate or the smoky restaurants and public areas. “Even in 2012, there were an incredible 75,000 vending machines in our country, and 7,500 gaming rooms, and cigarette smoke accompanied us at every turn. Measures that have significantly eliminated these negative phenomena are returning us to the civilized world, but expert figures show that we must remain active. “The increase in excise duties not only reduces the availability of addictive substances, but also raises funds to support prevention projects.”As a result of a long running campaign spearheaded by the Czech Ministry of Health and National Drug Policy Coordinator, the additional funds generated due to higher taxes will be used to support problem gambling initiatives across the country.last_img read more
